Welcome to Claflin, KS!  Known for our down-home charm and nostalgic Main Street, Claflin is conveniently located one mile west of Highway 156 along K-4.  We are less than a half hour away from Ellsworth, Hoisington, and Great Bend, making Claflin the perfect small town home to raise a family or retire to.

Incorporated in 1901, Claflin was once known as Giles City named after the town's founder Stelle Giles.  However, in the 1880's, we landed our official monicker when prominent citizen J. Hamilton named the town in honor of his wife's maiden name, Claflin.  To this day, one can travel down Hamilton Street, named in his honor. 

J.W. Miller established a hardware, implement, plumbing, heating and repair business in 1903 famously known as Miller's of Claflin.  Today, they boast an impressive 13 showrooms and are one of the largest furniture stores in the State of Kansas.  Miller's  Main Street facades are an exact replica of the town from our old-time past and give downtown Claflin a sense of nostalgia one can only experience when visiting.

Cheyenne Bottoms, the largest marsh in the interior of the United States and officially designated a Wetland of International Importance, is located less than 10 miles from Claflin and can be accessed via The Wetlands and Wildlife National Scenic Byway from Claflin.  This significance has helped Claflin and the surrounding countryside become a host to numerous wildlife and outdoor activities and attracts visitors from across the nation.

Clafin offers many family oriented activities throughout the year, is host to a number of volunteer civic organizations, and supports a strong community network.  Residents of Claflin share a vision for it's future that ties the bonds of our past with our growth and development of tomorrow.
